Israeli musicians to play at Hue Festival 2008 - Thai Hoa palace

The Israeli band, ESTA, will perform on the western stage of Thai Hoa palace on June 5 and 7 as part of Hue Festival 2008, which is taking place in central Thua-Thien Hue province from June 3-11.
The performance is part of many activities to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Israel's Independence and the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Israel-Vietnam diplomatic relations.

ESTA aims to reflect the multi-ethnic and cultural face of Israel and features a seamless blend of Jewish music with that of Balkan, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, African and Western traditions. The band wants to send out a message on the importance of harmony between different cultures and peoples.

“I think the fact that we play music from Islamic, Christian, Jewish and Western sources, and that it all comes together for us, proves that there is more in common between people than what separates them” said Shlomo Deshet, ESTA’s manager and percussionist. “If it can happen between instruments, then it should be able to happen between peoples,” he added.

ESTA's members come from many different countries around the world, including Bulgaria, Iraq, Poland, Iran, Romania, Syria, Russia, and Turkey. Since its establishment in 1979, ESTA has performed throughout Europe, Israel and the United States.
